The work is done in cooperation between the University of Oslo and The Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. The group consists
of science educators, programmers master and doctorial students.
The research has been carried out in close connection with teachers and their students in order to understand how ICT can contribute to the teaching and learning of science.
This report has two objectives: To tell the story of
how a small project has become a national curriculum development project, spread throughout
Norway and embraced by thousands of teachers and
students, and to present some interesting findings
from our research about how ICT may be used in
teaching science.
Through our curriculum development model we
have learned the importance of how the content of
our programs is enhanced when placed in a socialscientific
context and at the same time connected
to the national curriculum. We have studied the
important role the teacher plays in the classroom
even when their students are working with webbased
activities. Student outcomes are strongly
enhanced when they work in pairs and when they
work with off-line activities that emphasize the
importance of communicating science.
Finally, as curriculum developers, we have learned
the importance of texts and graphics are used in a
web-based context.
